Co-Production

1.Co-production with Japan

Films are financed as businesses, and overseas producers seeking to coproduce with Japan must first and foremost convince the Japanese counterpart of the project's commercial feasibility in Japan.

  • There is no system of production tax incentive programs.
  • Co-production agreement between Japan and China came into force on May 9, 2018. Producer is required to receive approvals both in Japan and China to enjoy all benefits under the domestic laws. On Japan's side, UNIJAPAN operates Japan-China Co-production Certificate Program. (Please refer to Section 2. below)

2. Certificate for Co-Production Treaty (co-production between Japan-China)

UNIJAPAN Certificate aims to promote co-production between Japan and China by being the standard for official co-production in Japan.

Application Guideline and Forms are available on UNIJAPAN website. Japanese counterpart must be required for application.
