Second Stage of the 2010 Screen Tourism Promotion Project, application for development support begins!

The Japan Tourism Agency has recently launched the Screen Tourism Promotion Project in order to boost inbound tourism to Japan. The aim of the project is to harness the broad appeal of films, TV dramas and other visual media to help promote Japan as a tourist destination.

For the first stage of the project we selected projects that were shooting in Japan for Production Support. In the next stage we are calling for applications from projects at the Development stage, for which the relevant representatives (see below) are intending to conduct script research or location scouting in Japan.

OVERVIEW:

1.Application period: October 25th (Mon) - November 5th (Fri)
2.Eligible applicants: Production (Development) representatives and representatives  of entities that will support the film crew, or representatives of Regional film commissions. (Japanese Line Producers, Production Managers)
3.Conditions for the provision of support (in brief)
  1) The content of the project must contribute to the attraction of foreign tourists to Japan.
  2) Works must be intended for release or broadcast overseas.
  3) The location scouting or script research must be completed before February 11th, 2011.
  4) The submissions of a location scouting completion report, for public release (details discussed with the local authorities, the impressions the filmmakers had of the location and photographs taken during the location scout etc.) must be made available by the 28th of February.
  5) The final draft of the screenplay and the shooting schedule (these will not be made public), must be submitted promptly after completion to the Japan Tourism Agency.
