SKIP CITY INTERNATIONAL D-Cinema FESTIVAL 2011 will take place in July 16-24,2011 and the call for entries is open!

With the recent development of digital tools, new found freedom of expressions is now wide-spreading regardless of age, experience, and culture and creating new business models. SKIP CITY INTERNATIONAL D-Cinema FESTIVAL is an international competitive film festival with a focus on films shot and edited solely on digital.
Since the inception in 2004, the festival has been held annually seeking high quality innovative submissions from all over the world exploring new possibility for digital expression. Our aim is to discover the next generation of filmmakers and support the development of new kind of audio-visual industry and we have gained recognition as one of Variety's "50 Unmissable Fests" in the world.
The festival features two competition categories: Feature Length Competition, which accepts submissions from all over the world, and Short Length Competition, which accepts domestic submissions only. Starting in 2009, the Feature Length Competition has been divided into World Cinema Section and Japanese Cinema Section in order to provide more opportunities for Japanese filmmakers. In addition, the SKIP CITY AWARD has been established to support the up and coming Japanese filmmakers and their activities at SKIP City. Since the 2nd edition, the Short Length Competition has been limited to the works by Japanese filmmakers in order to provide support for emerging talent.
All the finalists are screened with 4K digital cinema projectors at the state of the art theaters during the festival. The audience members have opportunities to interact with filmmakers from all over the world as well as the jurors and other film industry professionals.
We encourage filmmakers to seize business opportunities and hope to become a springboard for the audacious young filmmakers and we are happy to inform you that the 8th edition, SKIP CITY INTERNATIONAL D-Cinema FESTIVAL 2011 will be held from July 16 to 24, 2011. We opened the call for entries to the Feature Length Competition for filmmakers from all the world.

Concerning Competition Categories
Since the inception in 2004, the two competition categories have been set up to discover and nurture the next generation of filmmakers. We look for high quality innovative films exploring new possibility for digital expression and accept submissions from all over the world in Feature Length Competition and Japan only in Short Length Competition. After the pre-selection process, the finalists are selected and screened during the festival. Through the jury process, the awards are given to the filmmakers at the closing ceremony. In the last edition, 810 films were submitted from over 85 countries and regions.
*Feature Length Competition (International): Running time must be 70 minutes or longer
*Short Length Competition (Domestic): Running time must be between 15 minutes and 30 minutes
Note: Only Japanese films are eligible for the Short Length Competition
Entry Requirements
The submissions are accepted in the following two competition sections. However, nominations of feature length competition will be divided into the two sub-categories of "World Cinema" and "Japanese Cinema".
1. Feature Length Competition (International)
・All submissions must be shot digitally and able to be projected in digital format. (If your film is nominated, a digital screening tape with English subtitles or original language in English will be required.)
・Directors of feature length submissions cannot have more than three feature film directing credits, including documentaries, to their name(s). (If the submitted film is a director's fourth feature, he or she is not qualified for the competition.)
・Running time must be 70 minutes or longer.
・Production must be completed after January 1st 2010.
・All feature length submissions must have been produced for theatrical release.
・Films cannot be released commercially in Japan prior to the closing date of the Festival.
・Entries submitted once before are not eligible.
・We appreciate submissions be made with an understanding of the Festival's purpose.
The application of these conditions is at the discretion of the Festival Committee.
2. Short Length Competition (Domestic)
The regulation of this category is written only in Japanese since it's targeting at Japanese Shorts which are directed or produced by Japanese only.
3. Entry Fee
There is no entry fee. However, transportation charges and insurance fees for sending the necessary material must be covered by the applicant.
4. Pre-Selection Materials
・Entry Form
There are two methods of entry:
・Withoutabox
Submissions via Withoutabox are accepted. You must include the Withoutabox tracking
number with your screener copy.
・Entry form
Visit the festival website. The entry form must be printed, signed by the actual
applicant, and sent with the other required materials by airmail or courier.
・Screener
DVD (NTSC or PAL) is the accepted format for pre-selection. If the film's original language is
other than Japanese or English, please make sure it has English subtitles.
・Press Material (All materials must be in English or Japanese.)
・Synopsis (approximately 700 words)
・Cast and Crew list
・Biography and filmography of the director
5. Mailing Instructions
The properly completed entry form, required promotional material, and pre-selection DVD must
be received by Tuesday, March 1st, 2011 at the following address:
